From abstract to full paper

Many conferences review abstracts or posters first, then ask the authors of the accepted ones for the full paper. Do that on the same submission. Do not start a second one.

Some calls do not take a full paper written from an accepted abstract. On those, Turn this into a full paper is not shown and the accepted abstract stays as it is. If you were asked for a full paper and cannot find the button, message the editorial team.

For other changes, such as an accepted abstract presented as a poster, see Change what your submission is.

The submission keeps its tracking code, its reviews, its acceptance and its conversation with the editors. The organizers get one piece of work, not two that look like duplicates.

  1. Open the accepted abstract or poster.

  2. Choose Turn this into a full paper.

  3. Say why, from a short list. The editors will receive a full paper whose reviews belong to something shorter, and the reason tells them it is what they asked for.

  4. Write or import the full paper. The submission is open for editing.

A poster’s four sections arrive as the paper’s abstract, so nothing has to be retyped.

  5. Press Preview, then Submit for review. It goes to the editors as a new round.

Thing What happens
Letter of acceptance Stays available, and keeps naming what was accepted.
Book of abstracts Keeps showing the accepted abstract while the full paper is written and reviewed.
Place in the programme Kept. A poster keeps its place in the poster session.
Votes from readers Kept. They belong to the work, not to the text shown that day.
Tracking code The same.
Outcome Result
Accepted The full paper takes the place of the abstract.
Sent back without review The editors return the full paper with a reason, before anybody reviews it. Nothing is decided and your abstract is still accepted. Change what they raised and send it again.
Revision requested Revise and send it again, as with any round.
Not accepted, or you give it up The submission goes back to the accepted abstract. Your acceptance stands.
