People and roles
Open your conference or journal and press People & roles.

The four roles
Section titled “The four roles”| Role | What they can do | What they cannot see |
|---|---|---|
| Editor | Runs peer review: reads the submissions, invites and assigns reviewers, reads the reviews and records decisions. Can also do everything an organizer can. | |
| Organizer | Runs the event: programme and sessions, rooms, participants, badges and certificates, announcements and the public page. | Unpublished submissions and reviews. |
| Reviewer | Reviews the submissions they are assigned. | Everything else about the call. |
| Registrar | Handles registrations and payments: checks what authors have paid, records and confirms it. | Anything editorial. |
One person can hold any combination.
Add someone
Section titled “Add someone”- Enter the email address of their Quorum Press account.
- Tick the roles.
- Press Add.
A person who will only review can be invited by email before they have an account. They are added once they confirm.
Adding somebody who is already on the list gives them the ticked roles on top of the ones they hold. It never takes a role away. To take one away, press Change roles on their row, untick it and save: that sets exactly what is ticked.
Roles are not ownership
Section titled “Roles are not ownership”A person can be an editor, an organizer and a reviewer of a conference or journal at once, as a conference’s shared office address often is. None of those makes them an admin or the owner of the organization. The organization’s page lists everybody once, with every role they hold on each conference and journal, and counts how many hold each role.
Choosing roles well
Section titled “Choosing roles well”- Give the editor role to the people who decide. Two or more editors is wise: an editor cannot handle a submission of their own, and deleting submitted work needs a second editor’s approval. If you are the only editor and you are an author of a submission, it cannot be sent to reviewers, decided or published until you give the editor role to one more person who is not an author of it. They can handle that one submission and leave the rest to you.
- Give the registrar role to your accounts office. They reach payments and nothing else.
- Give the organizer role to the people who run the event, such as the secretariat, who do not need to read reviews.
Across an organization
Section titled “Across an organization”A person added at the level of the organization can work on all of its conferences and journals. See Organizations.
